There are many ways in which you can support them and give them the tools so that they may lead normal lives and even thrive. 1. Remember What’s Important This is one of the most popular ways on how to help a child with learning difficulties. Life success is more important than academic success, at the end of the day. That your child has happy and healthy relationships and a fulfilling job is the end goal. So how do you help them achieve this? By equipping them with the life tools of confidence, self-awareness, stress-management skills, proactivity, perseverance, and the ability to be vulnerable. The goal is to help your child help themselves. 2. Encourage A Balanced Lifestyle The three lifestyle keys to optimum performance are diet, exercise and sleep. Diet- A grain-rich diet, chock full of fruits and vegetables as well as some lean protein is best for aiding your child’s mental and physical development. Keep energy levels constant by providing snacks between meals. Exercise- Exercise releases endorphins which lift the mood and help beat stress. Sleep- Enough good quality sleep aids concentration and lack thereof will seriously affect your child's ability to learn. Set a regular bedtime and putting away all electronic devices an hour beforehand. 3.Take An Active Role In Your Child’s Education Read up on special education legislation so that you may get the best school support for your child. Pinpoint Your Child’s Learning Style We all have different learning styles. Discover your child's unique way of learning and take a step towards helping them maximize their academic potential, both in the classroom and at home. The Auditory Learning Style ● Takes in information best while listening ● Learns best during debates or study groups ● Excels in oral reports The Visual Learning Style ● Takes in information by reading or seeing ● Content offered visually sticks in their memory ● Pictures as well as charts and written material benefits them most The kinesthetic learning style ● They are physical learners ● Benefit from activities such as field trips and lab sessions ● Excel in sport as well as art
